Table service or no table service? We've decided that its just too confusing!
When we first enter a café we never know what we are supposed to do.....do we
look at the menu then order at the counter? or do we take a seat and wait for
service? This morning we had two different approaches from two different cafés.
At Church Point it appeared to be table service (as we were led to a table and
given menus) only to be told that we need to order at the counter (and join the
long queue at the main counter of the store). At the Q Café we stood at the counter feeling rather
stupid when we were told to take a seat and 'someone will be over to take our
orders'. Is it just us or are you all confused too!! Maybe there is a secret
code that we haven't cracked yet! We’re not asking for uniformity - just a
simple, unambigous sign at the counter would be good!
Now for the walk......
Another glorious morning greeted us after a week of wild weather. Today
we walked around the stunning Pittwater foreshore from Winnererremy Bay at
Mona Vale to Church Point and back. For most of the way the walk takes us
inbetween Pittwater on our right and Pittwater Road on our left and
is mostly on tracks and footpaths. If you follow the water’s edge you can’t go
wrong! Pittwater is so pretty in the early morning light and today there is not a breathe of wind. There are a few
kayakers about but not much action on the water. Pittwater Road is where it is
all happening – it’s a blur of multi coloured lycra! The push bike ride out to Church Point is so
popular - big packs of riders just keep coming. It's easy to see why - a
long winding and relatively quiet road with a variety of good cafés along
the way.
The walk itself was lovely and it is actually very easy on the tracks and
foopath. There are no hills to speak of, only a couple of small rises and that’s
it - of course you can make it harder by increasing your pace. You can also make
it as long or as short as you want by changing your starting point. For a
shorter walk Bayview to Church Point is a good option or do a longer walk by
starting at Mona Vale Shops.
Church Point General Store Café
Church Point General Store |
Who would have thought that $20 was not enough for breakfast and coffee!
We usually get a dollar or two change but not at the Church Point General Store Café. And for that you
also get to join a long queue at the store to place your order. We decided that
as nice as the café looked we could do better so we moved on!
Q Café
Q Cafe |
We walked back along the foreshore to Bayview and to the Q Café at the Quays
Marina. That was a surprise - an ultra modern chic café that has just been
refurbished. It is actually inside the marina building with sails to divide it from
the office area. There are both indoor and outdoor tables or even picnic
benches right on the water’s edge. It is a very popular spot and the tables
soon filled up. Our tip is to get there before 9.00 if you want an outside
table.
granola with yoghurt and poached fruit |
The menu was great with the breakfast offerings including eggs benedict, ricotta pancakes and toasted granola. It was all beautifully presented and looked delicious. We both chose the toasted granola with yoghurt, stewed
pears and rhubarb. The granola was a little bit too toasted for our liking but
still very yummy with the yoghurt and stewed fruit. The coffee was great and now we can't wait to go back and try somethings else.
